I was unemployed for about 5 months in 2015 and very unsure about what I wanted to do next. I was spending 50-60 hours a week researching and applying to jobs. It took a while but I found a great job and it put my career on a new trajectory.

But burnout is real even when you're unemployed and I was worn down. Here are my tips for treating yourself with kindness while you're unemployed now that I'm on the other side of it.

I am not looking for a new job for myself but I work with staffing companies to help them share their open jobs with Jobcase. Most of the staffing companies I'm speaking with are not hiring or are not hiring very many people in January.

But from what I am reading online, it seems January is a great time for job search -- this made me think of the Jobcase community:

If you are actively job searching how are you managing your search? Are... see more

Our vision is that Jobcase can be a modern union movement in support of workers. We begin by building a platform of tools and foster a community that supports one another. We then leverage this to amplify your voice, put data behind it, and bang on C-level doors to reclaim capitalism to work for all. We got your back. This op-ed printed in Fast Company magazine today is just the beginning. CEO's are starting to talk about valuing... see more

I got the chance to pitch the best and brightest that MIT has to offer to put people first. Want to see how you go from the singularity to Mr Rogers in one talk.... check out the link.
It’s about putting people first.
It’s about stakeholders not just shareholders.
It’s about using capitalism to fix capitalism.

That is correct

Below is a calculator to determine what a 'living wage' would be in your location. Do you think this is accurate?
Jobcase believes every employer should help provide either a living wage or a pathway to it. We understand that not every job will be able to pay a living wage. But we believe employers should provide one of the following 3 cases for every job:
a) provide a living wage
b) if providing a sub-living wage, THEN provide an internal... see more

So lotsa ceos are claiming to care about stakeholders as much as shareholders. Unfortunately in many cases they just talk the talk. But St Johns Properties sure walks the walk. Total respect to them on this Boss move.

Do you have a monthly or annual budget? If you don't, i suggest you do. It's not a fun exercise to put one together but an important one to help organize finances and to also point out whether you need to get motivated for different earning potential, etc.
That said - ugh, does it stink. Few of us have all the means we want so budgeting just forces us to address potential shortfalls and problems. But addressing them doesn't have to be... see more

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! And THANK YOU!

Because among the many blessings for which I am thankful for this year, having you as a Jobcaser is an extra special blessing.

One reason that the first Thanksgiving story is heartwarming at its core is because its a story about people helping one another. Even when they are strangers. Even when they are from vastly different cultures. And, isn't that what this Jobcase platform is for? Every day we... see more

Part of the Jobcase story is a David-versus-Goliath story where a bunch of really well-meaning, hard-working and good-hearted Quants, Engineers and business people are building this platform with a view that is more about 21st-century union than simply new tech company. We want to democratize big data, and leverage the network effects we can build in this community to advocate for workers more broadly. It's a big vision, but one we think... see more

Beautiful autumn New England weekend morning- so what is our Jobcase team doing? Helping run Mayor Martin Walsh’s Age Strong Job Fair today with our friends at AARP of course!
Dozens of employers are meeting amazing older workers today here in greater Boston. Employers that understand you don’t hire older workers despite their age, but BECAUSE of their age - and all the great skills and experience it affords. Awesome initiative that’s sure... see more

As difficult as it is for many, as imbalanced as it may be, this is the strongest our economy gets. So.. if we can't deal with real problems like homelessness, when the economy is strong - just imagine the repercussions as the economy gets to a weaker part of the cycle. We should all take time to search for courageous public servants in this election cycle - and reward them with our time and votes. There are things WE can do. And it starts... see more
