Congratulations! Scoring an interview is a HUGE step, but it can also be a daunting situation. Take a deep breath and relax... Here are a few tips to help you prepare!
Do Your Research
Before your interview, you should thoroughly research the company! This includes its history, products, achievements, etc. Be prepared to talk about these things during your interview. I also love doing a quick Google search of the individuals who will be interviewing me so I have a basic idea of who they are.
Dress to Impress
Be sure to look the part! Shower, shave and use minimal cologne/perfume. You want to look professional and ready for the responsibility of a new job. For ladies, dress pants and a nice blouse is always a great option. And for men, khakis and a polo is a perfect interview outfit.
You’ll want to arrive for your interview about 10 minutes before your start time, so plan accordingly! If you are taking public transportation, be sure you know the exact route and how long it will take. If you’re driving, confirm there is parking available and if not, find out what the options are.
Smile + Make Eye Contact
Interviews can be nerve-wracking experiences, especially your first one! Remember to breathe, smile and make eye contact with the person who is interviewing you. At the beginning and end of the conversation, stand and offer a firm, confident handshake! And of course, thank them on the way out.
Following up lets the employer know you are serious, reminds them of who you are, and keeps the hiring process moving along. Send a thank-you note/email immediately after an interview. This is a little common courtesy and helps your name stand out! Within the next few business days, follow up with a call or email. See what to say in your follow up here!
Good luck! Let us know how it goes :)
